Silica gel

Silica gel are one of the most common desiccants available in the market - which are often found in small packets not larger than 100 grams. However, Fonicpac allows customization of silica gel to your own liking, and to your own needs. Get a quote now:

indicators available

Our silica gel are mostly white/transparent, but with indicators that change colors when they’ve absorbed enough moisture. These indicators help to identify when a packet of silica gel is saturated – and can no longer function as intended.

The indicators come in two forms:

  • Blue – infused with cobalt chloride (CoCl2) which can be dangerous if exposed to long term. Turns from blue to purple when saturated.
  • Orange – infused with methyl violet. This is a safer option and mostly considered as “food grade silica gel”. Turns from orange to dark green when saturated.

versatility is its name

Silica gel can be utilized in a number of applications including but not limited to:

  • Electronics Protection: protects the microchips and internal integrity of the electronic from moisture damage.
  • Pharmaceutical & Medical: Preserves the efficacy of medicines – especially those that are sensitive to moisture damage.
  • Food Preservation: Prevents mold and spoilage, maintaining texture and quality.
  • Leather & Textiles: Protects goods made from leather such as wallets, belts, bags etc from mildew.
  • Storage and Shipping: Effective as a protection to goods that are placed in a tight-sealed environment, preventing moisture from building up within.
  • 3D Printing Filament: Silica gel is very good at maintaining the dryness of 3d printing filament.

Anything that you need to keep dry, silica gel can do it. Fonicpac’s silica gel packets are designed in a way that allows it to be easier to adsorb moisture.

high effectiveness

Silica gel as a non-toxic and chemically inert desiccant, it has been seen to work effectively in various environments – from protecting sensitive electronics and pharmaceuticals to preserving food and drying flowers.

  • Adsorption Capacity – Silica gel can adsorb a significant amount of moisture, often up to 40% of its own weight. This makes it very efficient at removing humidity from enclosed spaces.
  • Effectiveness in Varying Humidity – can work effectively across a wide range of humidity levels, making it a powerful desiccant to provide reliable protection in various environments.
  • Thermal Stability – Silica gel maintains its adsorption properties over a wide temperature range, which is especially important for applications involving temperature fluctuations.

selection of packaging materials

When considering packaging for silica gel, the choice of material significantly impacts its effectiveness. Fonicpac offers 3 types of packing material for silica gel packing as shown.

Each of the packaging material has their own pros and cons – but they are all great for general usage to protect your goods.

Non-Woven Fabric

Excellent breathability, allowing moisture to pass through effectively. Less prone to tear and wear, and can contain bigger grammage of silica gel.

one way paper silica gel

One-Way Paper

A specialized paper that allows moisture to be absorbed – but not allowing it to leave. Whilst lower permeability than Non-Woven, its effective in many general uses.

Plastic

Low permeability, allowing for long term storage in a small, air-tight environment. Its transparency – allowing better visibility on the indicators.
